Elekta Conference Award

Since 2011, Elekta has generously funded an award to support the attendance at regional industry conferences of young career medical physicists, either based in the Asia-Pacific or Australia/ NZ. Prior to 2020 this has involved direct travel support to and from Australia or SE Asia for conference attendances.

Each Elekta Award recipient is encouraged to provide a presentation summary of their conference experience and its relevance for their own research projects and quality improvement activities in their local clinic.

2023 Elekta Award

This award enables Medical Physicists to attend industry conferences for educational and career development purposes.


2023 Elekta Award Application Form


The application form requires a brief 1 page summary of a medical physics project currently or recently undertaken by the applicant, together with a CV and short cover letter outlining the motivation for EPSM conference attendance. Applications close 15 June 2023.

Prior Elekta Conference Award winners

With thanks to Elekta, in response to COVID19, this year Award was able to be converted into a virtual conference registration sponsorship initiative.

The Foundation was able to subsidise 20 additional Medical Physicists from low-to-middle-income countries across the Asia-Pacific region to register and attend the annual Engineering and Physical Sciences in Medicine (EPSM) virtual conference, held in early November.

The supported attendees included treatment hospital radiotherapy teams from Mongolia, Malaysia and Cambodia.

Our 2019 Elekta Travel Award winner was Dr Michael Jameson, a global lead physicist with GenesisCare and Adjunct Senior Lecturer at UNSW.  Michael chose to attend the ESTRO meets Asia  conference in Singapore in November 2019, where he able to participate in the conference program through presentation of a short talk on the potential for adaptive radiotherapy for brain cancer. Syarifatul participated in the EPSM conference in Adelaide, Australia, attended a Particle Therapy Workshop and visited the Royal Adelaide Hospital. You can read Syarifatul's report of her experiences at EPSM and a summary of her paper here

Nguyen's trip included attendance at the EPSM Conference in Hobart, Australia, and visits to Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre at the Prince of Wales Hospital, St George Hospital Cancer Care Centre, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer Hospital, and the University of Sydney.

This award provided Rachitha with the opportunity to attend the South-East Asian congress of Medical Physics (SEACOMP), as well as visiting two radiotherapy centres in the Philippines.

Kanchan attended EPSM in Wellington, New Zealand. He also visited the Blood and Cancer Centre at Wellington Hospital. 

During his visit to Australia, Matrika was able to attend the Combined Scientific Meeting held in Melbourne, Australia, in September 2014, along with 1,300 registrants working in radiology, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine and other associated professions. Matrika also visited the William Buckland Radiation Therapy Centre and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Christopher attended the 13th AOCMP & 11thSEACOMP in Singapore, as well as visiting several radiotherapy centres in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Haseeb attended the ESPM conference on the Gold Coast, Australia. Haseeb then travelled to Brisbane where he spent three days visiting the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Queensland University of Technology.

Ekta attended the 9th South – East Asian Conference of Medical Physics (SEACOMP) held in the Philippines. She also visited the Benavides Cancer Institute at the University of Santo Tomas, the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Centre, the Cardinal Santos Medical Centre, the Medical City Hospital, the Makati Medical Centre, St. Luke’s Medical Centre, Philippine Oncology Centre Corporation and the Philippine Oncology Centre Corporation.
