Making Tomorrow’s Technology Today

Dr Joel Poder receiving his certifiicate for the Richard Bates Travel Award from Dr Sean Geoghegan, Chairman, Better Healthcare Technology Foundation.

The Foundation is looking to support Australian and New Zealand healthcare projects involving medical physics, biomedical engineering, radio-pharmaceutical science and other associated physical sciences applied in medicine. We will assess these projects on the basis of their ability to:

– utilise technology that improves the patient experience,

– deliver benefits to the community, and

– lead to a greater understanding of the role of technology in medical science.

The purpose of the Foundation is: to engage in funding and promoting research and development initiatives that further the knowledge of causes, prevention, treatment and cure of human diseases and to disseminate the results of this research.

The Foundation’s Mission is to support:

  1. developing present and future ‘cutting-edge’ initiatives that lead to significant improvements in outcome, quality of treatment or safety for patients; and
  2. making technology accessible in Asia Pacific projects that raise standards to levels of best practice in hospitals of demonstrated disadvantaged patient care;

To fulfil its Mission, the Foundation seeks to obtain sufficient funding from sponsorship and grants by;

  • promoting and encouraging the work of the profession’s experts on approved future ‘cutting-edge’ initiatives for research, education and training purposes;
  • supporting projects that continue to improve future patient safety, quality of care and efficiency in the delivery or access of technologies using medical devices and/or software;
  • helping to develop next generation’s leaders in the profession with skills in innovation, quality of care, vision, worthy charitable activities, multidisciplinary collaborations, professional charisma and management qualities;
  • engaging in cooperative or collaborative hospital, university, medical research institutes or other centres of healthcare and medical research;
  • establishing partnerships, agreements or informal arrangements with kindred professional bodies, research organisations, charitable organisations, philanthropic institutions or other recognized groups;
  • publicising outstanding achievements (past and present) of the profession’s innovative work that has significantly improved healthcare;
  • attending Conferences and regional events to keep the profession and volunteers of the Foundation fully informed;
  • promoting community awareness (including maintaining a Foundation website) of health diseases and the role of the profession engaged in advanced clinical research, technique development and patient treatments;
  • acting and administering trust funds received for the purposes and scope of these Objects; and
  • pursuing any other activities consistent with the Foundation’s charitable purposes.

The Foundation’s end goal is to help develop techniques or technology for Australia and New Zealand healthcare that can provide patients more accurate, higher patient cure rate with less treatment complications.

Promoting Tomorrow’s Healthcare Leaders

The Foundation also endeavours to foster the development of forward-thinking, innovative professional leaders whose work would further improve the patient healthcare services.

The Foundation invites all health disciplines (physicians, surgeons, allied health professionals and industry representatives) to join the special interest groups and work with the science, physics and engineering in medicine profession.
