Dear members,

Dr Jack Jellins AM has sent details of a historic news report. The Sydney located Commonwealth Acoustics Laboratory was in the ’60s an internationally leading research and development centre for new, innovative medical ultrasound devices. Visualising an unborn foetus with the safe use of ultrasound imaging was a world-first achievement.

This is an extremely valuable historical item, a high-quality video that should be included on the Better Healthcare Technology website. Gerald Stone came to Australia in 1962 and moved to TV in 1967 where he first appeared on ABC TV‘s This Day Tonight as a reporter. You may remember seeing him on television later on Channel 9.”

To recognise this significant event plus many of his other worthy achievements, the profession offers an annual David Robinson Award for innovative work related to diagnostic imaging or biomedical engineering.
